Z-Phi-B Phit & Phine Challenge #1
Founders' Day Challenge
January 15-27, 2012
Challenge Description:For the 4 months your focus is on being healthy, not losing weight, which is why we are suggesting you put the scale away for this challenge. That isn't to imply you will not lose weight or that you should not try to lose weight. However, the focus of this challenge is on daily accomplishments. Taking some time away from your weight loss goals may be just what you need to re-focus and remember that exercise and healthy eating can give you a lot more than a smaller number on the scale.
Keep in mind that this is your challenge. If you cannot live without the scale, that's your choice. Just remember, this challenge really is about breaking out of self-imposed limits. So think about that as you make your decision.
We created the Founders' Day Challenge to celebrate the formation of our wonderful organization and the principles it stands for, one being Sisterly Love. What a wonderful way to start off the New Year! In this challenge, you are asked to commit to 30 minutes of cardio fitness of your choice with a Soror or Amicae three (3) times a week, for the next two (2) weeks, the challenge period. The challenge period will always be two (2) weeks unless otherwise specified.
Cardio fitness routines can include but are not limited to running, walking, elliptical machine, tread mill, biking, aerobics, etc. You must submit a picture of you actively working out with a Soror or Amicae in order to receive points. Each person within the picture must submit it separately with the requested information on the regional website. In order to receive points for this challenge, all information must be received by Friday, January 27th by 11:59 PM. Best of luck and we can't wait to receive your Blutiful Photos!
Dr. Bo & Coach Moe's Healthy Tips
Nutrition: Try eating at least one serving of veggies with every meal. According to the new food pyramid and nutrition recommendations by the FDA, adult women age 19-50 are to get at least 2.5 cups of veggies on a daily basis. Women over 50 need at least 2 cups.
Fitness: When doing your cardio workout it is important breathe. This may sound silly but many people tend to hold their breath while working out. Try to take deep breathes in through the nose and out through the mouth. This form of breathing increases the amount of air that enters the lungs. This is very important to not only working out but life in general. ***Don't forget to stretch before and after you workouts***
Mind & Body: We recommend you also take some time to get your mind right! Find a quiet place to sit and close your eyes. Breathe deeply and focus on your breath by counting to three for each inhale and three for each exhale. Continue this for at least one minute (or more if you have the time). If your mind wanders, notice what you are thinking about and then gently focus on your breath.
